funny story...

asher likes to play with blocks now, and i'd say we have a pretty good working relationship; i build the tower, he knocks it down. in these pictures he is happy, but it is pretty funny when he is upset and crying if i build a block tower where he can see it he will tone it down to whimper, crawl over to it, knock it down then start crying again...every time! it is so funny. it's like he just can't leave it standing. am i horrible for testing out this game?

good ol' rice cereal

so, i wasn't in a hurry to feed asher solid food, but he was just acting so interested in our food that i thought i would try it out. the kid loved it! i had to refill the bowl three times that first day.

he also did great with his sippy cup. doesn't he look so serious about his food.

he very much likes to hold the spoon. he grabs it as soon as it is close enough and helps me put it in his mouth (messy, but cute).

big boy

this is my happy boy as he learns how to sit up all by himself. (remember, this was a month ago. now he can sit up, crawl, stand up to furniture, etc.).

really?

i had to post this just because i can't believe kids do it, all kids. it's just so funny to me that they all find their toes and their toes all find their mouths!

early risers...

one day asher and i decided to get up early and go for a walk. i mean early. so early that we had to wear our winter coats in august. i just wanted to try again to be a morning person and enjoy the stillness and beauty of the morning. it didn't work. i respect the stillness and the beauty, but i have a hard time enjoying it. asher was happy until we got outside and i kept insisting that his hands stayed under the blanket.

it was a nice try. we might just do it again sometime.

little wonderment...

i loved this day! i got to watch asher play in his first sunspot. he was just amazed. his little fingers would touch the carpet, then the air above and he would watch his little shadow. he would look around and then at me. he would smile!

wonderment.

he stayed in this sunspot (or very close by) the whole hour and a half that he was awake before nap time.

hey, relax. kick your feet up.

he also discovered forts this day. never too young.

he likes it how he likes it...

first... asher decided that he liked to watch his baby einstein movie sideways...

then... he moved on to upside down! for a while even if i did move him he would wiggled back to the position that he likes best.

doesn't it look like he is flashing you the peace sign without even taking his thumb out of this mouth.

he still likes the puppy puppet on the video the best.

oh, boy.

i even tried it with him one afternoon. it wasn't too bad. this day he also wanted to suck my thumb the whole time!

Time for an update

hi friends, it's been over a month since i last posted anything here. not because we haven't had cute pictures or any stories to tell, but we have been busy, justin had a week off from school and asher has been learning new skills i.e. eating solid foods. anyway, we have been well and enjoying every second of being a little family.

tonight i am going to attempt to post pictures from where i left off to the current. justin is at work and the asher man is sleeping...wish me luck!

these pictures show when asher was into the mirror about a month ago. i was pretty impressed at some of the funny faces that he could pull.

I am a Lily!!!

You Are A Lily

You are a nurturer and all around natural therapist.
People see you as their rock. And they are able to depend on you.
You are a soothing influence. You can make people feel better with a few words.
Your caring has more of an impact than even you realize.

I saw this one someone else's blog and thought..."I want to be a lily." because that is my favorite flower, so I took the quiz and guess what...I am a lily ;) Kind of fun!

5 months old...

5, 4, 3, 2, 1! Asher is 5 months old and these are pictures I have taken of his cute face each month on his month birthday. From top to bottom, oldest to youngest!! For those of you who don't know I am doing this because I think it's fun to compare how he has grown and changed each month, and I am going to do it for the first year. I thought it would be neat to capture the changes because as his momma I am lucky to get to spend so much time with him, but that also means I see him all the time, so it is harder for me to realize how much he has grown. Sometimes it takes a blanket that doesn't cover him all the way anymore, his feet hanging over the edge of the baby bath tub, or shorts that actually fit his waist (0-3 months shorts and he is really 5 months old...baby clothes sizes are CRAZY!) to make me notice how big he really is! Then a friend of mine gave me a perfect frame with 12 little places for pictures, so I thought of this little project and the rest is history...or at least the last 5 months are!

It's BYU football time...

It's football season and Justin is excited for Asher to be his buddy!

Asher reaches for EVERYTHING these days!!!

Just in case anyone was wondering, Asher's Daddy likes BYU ;)
(can you tell?)

Asher was playing on the floor and ended up snuggled into the couch and watched the rest of his Baby Einstein video just like that. Every time I would move him he would wiggle his way right back to that spot.

This is what Asher does now. Rather than crawl on his knees he gets up onto his toes. He doesn't make it very far and usually ends up face planting into the floor. Maybe he is just trying to do a head stand :)

He just might be a fish...

Well, we thought we would try taking Asher swimming this last weekend and he did great! He seemed to really enjoy it. Once he got used to the temperature (I think it was a little cold) he started kicking those little legs like he knew just what he was doing.

But really I think his favorite part was licking the water off his fingers!

His "little swimmer" diaper was a "little" too big. Oops :)

He also spent a little time with his great grandpa. That was neat to watch!

4 month face

This is late, but here is Asher's four month face. I'll take his 5 month one pretty soon. He just keeps getting older and older and I am able to get to know his personality better each day.

Asher is trying to crawl...

This is a quick video clip of Asher trying to figure out what to do next once he gets up on his hands and knees. He is learning so fast! He is already better at it than when I recorded this three days ago. Sometimes he bunny hops his knees forward and is able to move his hands also and then do it all again, but most of the time he just topples onto his face once he has moved his knees forward. I don't think it will be long before he gets it.

As I watch him figure out how to do this I feel so proud of him for being strong and learning so well, but at the same time I am sad to say farewell to the easy days of setting him on a blanket or holding him in my lap. I guess I only get four and a half months of peaceful sitting! Oh, well. Let the days of following/chasing after my soon-to-be adventurous, curious, brave, energetic, dare devil of a son (I'm just guessing that's what he will be...) begin!!
